Paradise Axe Throwing & Retro Arcade, located at 127 Sound Road in Holly Ridge, North Carolina, has been a recreational hub for the local community since at least 2021. The venue occupies a building with significant historical roots, originally constructed in 1941 as the officer’s club for Camp Davis, a major World War II anti-aircraft artillery training facility. This site once hosted morale-boosting USO shows featuring national stars, and a mural along with other memorabilia within the arcade honor this past. Founders Dorothy and Richard Royal acquired the historic structure and later hosted Camp Davis’ 75th anniversary celebration in April 2015, ensuring the building’s legacy continued within the community.
The establishment offers a blend of attractions, including approximately 100 “old-fashioned” arcade games, ten competitive axe-throwing lanes, pool tables, air hockey, and other interactive games. Beyond entertainment, the Royals established the venue to address a community need for affordable, engaging activities, aiming to provide a positive alternative for youth. Paradise Axe Throwing & Retro Arcade serves as a family-friendly destination for all ages, offering a concession stand with food and beverages, and a 5,000-square-foot party room for events. Its ongoing operation fosters community engagement, hosting events such as fundraisers for local non-profits.
