Western Trails Sign May 1972

Western Trails Miniature Golf and Arcade was located at 11015 Cicero Avenue in Oak Lawn, IL. Established in 1961 during the golden era of roadside amusements, Western Trails became a legendary staple of south suburban Chicago recreation from the mid-to-late 20th century. The property was a perfect slice of retro Americana, famously pairing a winding, beautifully landscaped 18-hole outdoor miniature golf course with an unmissable neon sign, a bustling classic hamburger stand, and a lively indoor game room.

For arcade enthusiasts, Western Trails was a premier local hub where neighborhood kids and families gathered to swap quarters for custom arcade tokens. The arcade was known for its excellent layout of contemporary pinball machines and video games, serving as a proving ground for sports titles like Arch Rivals and hosting incredibly rare laserdisc games like Atomic Castle during the early 1980s. Though the hum of the cabinets and the click of the golf balls eventually went quiet when the facility closed down in 1995, Western Trails remains warmly etched in the cultural memory of regional gamers and miniature golf historians alike.
