Operating in Decatur, Georgia, from June 3, 1982, until approximately August 7, 1991, Sgt. Singer’s Pizza Circus provided a distinctive family entertainment experience. This location, part of a small chain founded by Craig Singer and operated by Nickels and Dimes Incorporated, offered a combination of pizza, arcade games, and elaborate animatronic stage shows, akin to other popular family entertainment centers of the era. Unlike other Sgt. Singer’s venues, the Decatur establishment uniquely featured “The Animal Crackers” animatronic band, including Sheriff Bob Wire & the B.O.Y.S, Patty Pachyderm & Mortimer D. Mouse, and the Ape-Ology’s, rather than the standard Sgt. Singer’s troupe.
Sgt. Singer’s Pizza Circus served as a vibrant recreational hub for the local Decatur community, hosting numerous birthday parties and offering a “massive arcade selection” alongside its musical entertainment. The chain experienced a decline as its parent company, Nickels and Dimes Incorporated, shifted its focus back to traditional arcades around 1988, leading to the eventual closure of all Sgt. Singer’s locations, with the Decatur venue being among the last to cease operations.
