Diamond Jim’s Arcade: Eastwood Mall

Diamond Jim’s Arcade, situated within Birmingham, Alabama’s Eastwood Mall, served as a recreational cornerstone for the local community during its operational years. While specific opening and closing dates for the arcade are not definitively documented, recollections indicate it was a prominent attraction throughout the late 1980s and into the early to mid-1990s. The Eastwood Mall itself, an important retail hub that opened on August 25, 1960, as one of the Southeast’s first enclosed shopping centers, provided the setting for Diamond Jim’s.

As part of the lively Eastwood Mall environment, Diamond Jim’s Arcade offered classic coin-operated games that contributed to the mall’s appeal as a gathering place for families and youth. The arcade’s presence supported the mall’s role as a multifaceted entertainment destination for nearly two decades. The Eastwood Mall closed in August 2004 and was subsequently demolished in June 2006, leading to the eventual cessation of operations for its various tenants, including Diamond Jim’s Arcade.
