Aladdin’s Castle in Fairfield, Alabama, was a beloved arcade located within the Western Hills Mall at 7201 Aaron Aronov Drive. Opening around the same time as the mall itself in the early 1970s, it quickly established itself as a significant recreational hub for the local community, offering an exciting indoor entertainment experience for families and youth. The national Aladdin’s Castle chain, which began as “Carousel Time” in 1969 and was later renamed in 1974, focused on creating welcoming, family-friendly arcade environments within shopping centers.
Throughout its operation, this Aladdin’s Castle location featured a variety of popular coin-operated video games and pinball machines, characteristic of the arcade’s golden age. Guests could enjoy titles such as Galaga, Mortal Kombat, Star Wars, and Dragon’s Lair. Beyond daily play, the venue also hosted birthday parties, often offering special “free play” events that created lasting memories for many children. Aladdin’s Castle at Western Hills Mall served generations of Fairfield residents until its closure in early 2008, a reflection of the broader trend of mall arcade decline due to the rise of at-home gaming.
