Arcademie, located at 22 NW 6th Street in Evansville, Indiana, opened its doors to the public in September 2021, though it was initially ready for debut in March 2020 before pandemic-related delays. Situated in the historic O’Donnell Building, which dates back to 1905, the venue occupies a space that previously housed a bakery and, for over five decades, the Bethuram vacuum cleaner shop until its closure in 1997. Owners Jessica and Carl Arnheiter acquired the building in 2017, undertaking a restoration that preserved original architectural elements while repurposing vintage vacuums found on-site into unique decor.
The establishment functions as a bar and a “museum of antiquated technology,” offering patrons a blend of classic entertainment and modern hospitality. It features nearly 50 video games and pinball machines, including titles like Tempest, Galaga, Q-Bert, Dig Dug, and Pac-Man, with many set to free play. Additionally, Arcademie provides a selection of craft beers, cocktails, and a limited food menu, emphasizing a thoughtful bar experience alongside the arcade attractions. The venue further expands its offerings with a second-floor space, the Altar Bar, which is set to become Evansville’s first non-alcoholic bar in August 2025, providing a zero-proof environment for socializing. Arcademie serves as a dedicated recreational hub in Downtown Evansville, contributing a vibrant fusion of nostalgia and contemporary entertainment to the local community.
