Six Flags Over Georgia & Hurricaine Harbor

Six Flags Over Georgia & Hurricane Harbor, located in Austell, Georgia, has served as a prominent entertainment destination since its opening on June 16, 1967. It was the second theme park established within the Six Flags chain, founded by Angus G. Wynne, with initial design work beginning in 1964. The park’s early theming drew inspiration from the various flags that have historically flown over Georgia. Still operating today, the park continues to evolve, expanding its offerings to include the Hurricane Harbor water park on May 30, 2014, which features attractions like the Tsunami Surge, the world’s first hybrid zero-gravity slide, and the Calypso Bay wave pool.

Over the decades, Six Flags Over Georgia has introduced numerous attractions. Original rides included the Log Jamboree log flume, the Six Flags Railroad, and the Dahlonega Mine Train, the park’s first roller coaster. Later additions brought significant thrills, such as The Great American Scream Machine, which opened in 1973 as the world’s tallest and fastest roller coaster of its time, and the Batman The Ride inverted coaster in 1997. Today, the park features a diverse array of experiences, from the towering Goliath hypercoaster and the Riverview Carousel, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, to children’s areas and seasonal events like Holiday in the Park and Fright Fest. Six Flags Over Georgia remains a significant recreational hub for the local community and the broader Southeast region, contributing to tourism and providing employment opportunities.
