Operating within Union City, Georgia’s Shannon Mall, Time Out provided a dedicated entertainment space for the local community for many years. The arcade was part of a national chain founded by Turkish Taffy entrepreneur Tico Bonomo, which became a prominent feature in shopping malls across the country. Shannon Mall itself opened on August 7, 1980, serving as a significant regional shopping destination that attracted visitors from a wide radius. Time Out arcades were known for offering a range of coin-operated video games and pinball machines, including titles like Asteroids, Pac-Man, Defender, and Galaga, alongside racing and shooting games. These venues often served as a popular gathering spot for youth, with parents frequently dropping off children with quarters for hours of entertainment while they shopped.
As the mall faced increasing competition from newer retail developments in the mid-1990s and early 2000s, its vitality diminished. While an iteration named “Time-Out 2” located in the food court reportedly closed around 2004, the primary Time Out arcade likely ceased operations as the mall experienced a significant decline. Shannon Mall, later renamed Union Station Mall, ultimately closed its doors on November 2, 2010, after its electricity was disconnected due to unpaid bills. The mall was subsequently demolished starting in October 2014, marking the end of Time Out’s presence in Union City.
