Imbibe is situated within the historic Fountain Square Theatre Building at 1105 Shelby Street in Indianapolis, Indiana. The building itself boasts a rich history, having originally opened on May 4, 1928, as a grand entertainment venue featuring a 1,500-seat motion picture and vaudeville theater, professional offices, and Fountain Square Recreation—a bowling alley and billiard hall that operated on the fourth floor until 1957. Following a period of decline in the 1960s, the building underwent extensive renovations beginning in 1993, transforming it into a vibrant multi-use space.
Today, Imbibe serves as a lively lobby bar and game room on the Shelby Street side of the revitalized building, contributing to the cultural fabric of the Fountain Square district. The establishment offers a casual, friendly atmosphere with a menu of handcrafted cocktails, local and regional craft beers, wines, and a selection of appetizers, sandwiches, and pizzas. Its game room, designated for patrons 21 and older, features numerous attractions including billiard tables, dart boards, ping-pong tables, air hockey, foosball, shuffleboard, and coin-operated pinball machines, alongside regular karaoke nights. As the “neighborhood’s Favorite Game bar,” Imbibe plays a role in the ongoing development of Fountain Square as a dynamic community hub for entertainment, artists, and entrepreneurs.
