Located in Asheville, North Carolina, Level 256 Classic Arcade Bar established its presence in the city’s South Slope district in June 2020. Founded by local video game enthusiasts Adam and Anna, the establishment drew inspiration from similar arcade bar concepts, such as Portland’s Ground Kontrol Classic Arcade and Philadelphia’s Barcade, which they visited in 2009 and 2013 respectively. The venue’s name, “Level 256,” references the iconic kill screen glitch from the classic arcade game Pac-Man.
Level 256 Classic Arcade Bar serves as a community entertainment hub, offering a diverse array of over 30 classic arcade cabinets, more than 16 pinball machines, and 20 classic and modern console setups with hundreds of authentic games. Beyond gaming, it features a bar with 16 rotating craft beer taps, spirits, wine, and other beverages. The venue hosts weekly events, including Locals Day and IFPA Pinball Tournaments, and welcomes all ages on Saturday and Sunday until 5 PM, providing a unique recreational experience in downtown Asheville.
